Boost Brainpower!

Pregnant women who eat foods high in omega-3 fatty acids will not only improve their own health, but they are also helping to support their baby’s brain and eye development and function. The March of Dimes recommends that pregnant women aim to get at least 200 milligrams of DHA every day, so here are eight foods high in omega-3 fatty acids to boost baby's brainpower.

Walnuts - Walnuts are an excellent source of the omega-3 fatty acids — and they're a great way to curb hunger pains.

Cabbage - This leafy green's high levels of the brainy fat may help with fetal development — and it's also super healthy for mama.

Brussels Sprouts - Stock up on these healthy sprouts. Not only are they a good source of omega-3 fatty acids, but they are also a great source of folate, which is also essential for fetal development.

Soybeans - Pregnant women may not be able to indulge in sushi, but they can still enjoy edamame. Cooked soybeans are an excellent way to consume omega-3 fatty acids.

Cauliflower - These little white veggies are omega-3 fatty acid powerhouses — eat up!

Flax Seed - Regularly sprinkle a handful of these nutty seeds on your salad, pasta, or sandwich and your baby may be well on his way to the head of the class. On a budget? You can get a pound of Organic Flax Seed for under $4.

Salmon - Expectant mamas have to watch how much fish they consume per week, but when you do dine on seafood, you'll get the most omega-3 fatty acids if you eat salmon. Moms-to-be can safely eat up to a total of 12 ounces per week of salmon.

Oregano - Spice it up with oregano. The tasty seasoning found commonly in Italian dishes is high in the healthy fat.
