Garlic is a wonderful natural antibiotic that can assist in fighting off colds and common upper respiratory infections. Try to eat two to four garlic cloves daily, Dr. Ditchek says.
"Extracts of aged garlic can be used as well," he says. Or use garlic supplements, following the directions on the label. A recent study of 146 participants found that people who took a garlic supplement reported fewer cases of the common cold. Healthline reported that it could also reduce the severity of these symptoms. But avoid garlic supplements for 7 to 10 days prior to any surgery.
